AMED TIMES - Faruk Korkmaz, board member of DTSO (Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry), said that 2 years ago they distributed tablets to students who chose Kurdish as an elective subject and this year they will distribute tablets to 1,145 students who chose this course.

The Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DTSO) is preparing to provide tablets to students who choose Kurdish as an elective subject in the Kurmancî and Kirmanckî (Zazakî) dialects in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 for the 2024-2025 school year.

300 tablets were distributed to students in 2022

DTSO board member Faruk Korkmaz recalled that they gave away 300 tablets to students in 2022 to promote Kurdish elective subjects.

Korkmaz: We will provide 1,145 students with tablets

DTSO provides tablets to 1,145 students who choose Kurdish electives

Faruk Korkmaz, board member of Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DTSO), announced that tablets will be distributed to 1,145 students who have chosen Kurdish as an elective subject in Diyarbakır city centre and districts.

The tablet distribution ceremony will be held on Saturday, 25 May, at the Sezai Karakoç Congress Centre.

Korkmaz explained that the decision to distribute tablets was made in 2023 but was postponed due to the 6 February earthquakes. He explained that 5,600 students in Diyarbakır province chose Kurdish as an elective subject and 1,145 of them applied for tablets.

Korkmaz called on non-governmental organisations and the business community to support the preservation of the Kurdish language.

Korkmaz emphasised that the DTSO Assembly wants to cooperate with relevant NGOs in the city for the ongoing project:

We call on all other NGOs, this is not just our duty, it is everyone's duty. We must do everything we can to ensure the future and preservation of the Kurdish language. Through your mediation, we also appeal to the business world and the relevant institutions.
