AMED TIMES - According to reports in Pakistan's national media, Khyber Pahtunhva provincial authorities have issued flood warnings in several areas due to melting glaciers.
Muhammad Qaiser Khan of the Disaster Management Authority stated that if safety measures are not taken in time against possible flooding, there may be heavy loss of life and property. Khan noted that people should move to safe areas before any danger.
In the disasters and accidents caused by heavy rains in the last 5 days, 59 people, including 33 children, lost their lives, 2,875 houses and 26 schools were destroyed or damaged in Khyber Pahtunhva.
A total of 98 people had lost their lives as a result of heavy rains and floods in the northwestern and southwestern regions of Pakistan.
In the flood disaster in Pakistan in 2022, 1739 people lost their lives. The government had announced that the cost of the flood to the country was over 30 billion dollars.
In Pakistan, which has the most glaciers outside the polar region, almost all of the more than 7 thousand glaciers in the mountainous regions are located in Khyber Pahtunhva province and Gilgit-Baltistan region.
